[note: we are planning to share profiles of team members here at Sambrook’s on an occasional basis…]
We are very pleased to introduce you to one of our team members – Ailie Miles who joined us back in May 2016. She’s in charge of the Sambrook’s Brewery Shop among other mixed duties, including managing our taproom cellar, orders for parties, weddings and events, and booking in tours. She’s also helping Sean in the brewery. We sat down over a pint of Junction Ale to ask her a few questions:
How did you first learn about Sambrook’s?
Through drinking a pint of Wandle many moons ago! It was in The Hope on Wandsworth Common.
Before working at Sambrook’s, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Most people are a bit surprised when they find out that 7 months ago, and for many years prior, I was working as a TV Producer!
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I lived in Hong Kong in 1998/99 and taught English in a high school. None of the kids wanted to speak in class for fear of getting things wrong and ‘losing face’, but would flood to the staffroom door for a natter at any available break time. More frustrating than weird!
Where did you grow up?
Near Edinburgh. So no, my accent is not Irish!
What hobbies or sports do you do?
Running about at work means 15,000 daily steps are normal before I add in any extra exercise! Outside of the brewery, I’m a very keen home brewer. I’m also a gardener, grow loads of fruit and veg and keep chickens for their eggs.
I love good design, collecting beautiful chairs and am completely addicted to playing Boggle.
People would be surprised if they knew:
That I used to teach tap and modern dance.
If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?
The ability to pause time. No question. I would abuse it so much!
What’s your favourite Sambrook’s beer?
Such a tough choice, but at the moment, it’s Junction on cask and Black IPA on keg. It changes all the time!
When not drinking Sambrook’s what’s your favourite beer, tipple or soft drink?
Unsurprisingly, I’m a huge fan of trying new beers and really love big, hop-forward flavours, whether in cask (I’m a CAMRA member) or keg.
I’m rarely loyal to brands, but working through the ever-changing taps at Brew By Numbers is always an interesting journey! Beer aside, I’m also a coffee addict.
Shameless Sales Pitch?
Ailie says: “our Brewery Taproom & Shop are little known gems in Battersea, why not pay us a visit!?”
